A custom built pergola connects your house to the garden and creates an intermediate space between “inside” and “outside”. Oak is the preferred choice for a pergola that will last a lifetime. Different options are available to provide shade. Bamboo mats have a natural look. A retractable canopy is preferred if you don’t want permanent shading. Vines are a natural solution to provide shade during summer and allow light through in winter.

This garden shed has an EDPM roof, covered with a sedum green roof. An oak pergola, connected to the garden shed, provides shelter for a lounge area. The lounge furniture is built out of the same rough sawn oak boards that were used for the garden shed vertical siding.
